Estimado, en mi post 1172 le preguntaba por la existencia de literatura científica que descartase la evolución. A eso usted me respondió en su post 1178 con la conferencia de Dibble y algo del cráneo 5. Por tanto asumí que eso era parte de su respuesta a mi post.

El cambio de paradigma no es la primera vez que usted lo sugiere, pero en la concreta no hay evidencia de que eso vaya a ocurrir por el momento. Fundamentalmente porque no hay ninguna teoría científica que compita con la teoría evolutiva y mucho menos una literatura que genere una masa crítica de conocimiento que provoque el cambio.

De los neandertales enfermos hay evidencia de especímenes que tenían heridas incapacitantes y que sólo podrían haberlas sobrevivido (y lo hicieron) si otros se encargaban de su alimentación y cuidado. Parece ser que hay varios “cráneo 5”. Supongo que usted está hablando del encontrado en Dmanisi. En este caso los autores del descubrimiento alegan que los 5 cráneos encontrados relativamente en el mismo estrato (estrato que se corresponde con unos 20000 años) pertenecen a una misma especie. Se basan para esto en que, según ellos, los cráneos no muestran diferencias morfológicas significativas. De ahí Lordkipanidze et al. extrapolan sus resultados y sugieren que Homo ergaster, Homo habilis y Homo rudolfensis, deben ser reclasificados e identificados como variaciones locales de Homo erectus.

De lo anterior sólo dos comentarios. 1ro, que si las conclusiones de Lordkipanidze et al. Son correctas, esto no representa la gran cosa, simplemente que la ruta evolutiva que lleva a Homo sapiens es menos ramificada de lo que se pensaba. 2do, que dichos resultados, hasta dónde se, no han tenido tanta repercusión hasta el momento (hasta dónde se) y de hecho el trabajo de Lordkipanidze et al. ha recibido críticas que señalan la existencia de diferencias morfológicas y que sugieren cautela antes de agrupar dichas especies. De igual forma se indica que aunque los restos hayan sido recuperados cercanos unos de otros, esto no significa que estén realmente relacionadas, pues pueden haber ocurrido migraciones durante los miles de años que van de un cráneo a otro.

El evolucionismo social es el término que define el cambio de una sociedad a otra más compleja. Está basado en teorías antropológicas de desarrollo social que se acreditan a sociedades con términos de estado primitivo que gradualmente se tornan más civilizadas con el pasar del tiempo.
El evolucionismo social está formado por ideas como las de Charles Darwin, Herbert Spencer y Lewis Henry Morgan entre otros. Estos dos últimos basan sus pensamientos en la teoría evolutiva de Darwin, por la cual Spencer acuñara, más adelante, el término de darwinismo social y que Morgan utilizara para analizar a las tribus norteamericanas con el estudio de los iroqueses. El objetivo de sus estudios no es la evolución de las instituciones individuales aisladas dentro de contexto social, si no principalmente la evolución de la sociedad como un todo.
Todas estas ideas han sido compuestas por las denominadas principales civilizaciones y principales movimientos en la historia del mundo antiguo y medieval en Occidente y que hoy en día siguen teniendo vigencia. Estos cuatros principales focos que más han influido han sido lo fenicio (comercio), lo griego (todo lo que tienen las demás civilizaciones pero se le añade el juego de azar, el arte, ideas liberales, etc.), lo romano (el poder y la superioridad) y lo judeocristiano (Dios y orígenes de la naturaleza).
El mestizaje social lleva a cabo la relación y la mejoría de la civilización que según en la Eneida, Virgilio define otros pueblos como los que cultivaran mejor la tierra.[SUP]1[/SUP] Max Weber definió estos cuatro elementos como la jaula de hierro (El caballo de Troya). El mestizaje social es lo que se diría la denominada faceta principal de los rasgos que definieran una situación. En esto Bernat Muniesa nos dice:

“Cierto que siguen existiendo grupos de gentes pensadores de grandes fortunas y otros verdaderos indigentes y entre ellos lo que es el cuerpo central de la mezcla, las clases medias, pero todos unos y otros están muy próximos entre sí mucho mas de los que creen y esa ha sido y es la gran tragedia de la burguesía[SUP]2[/SUP]

A todo esto la evolución social ha sido tomada por quienes estudian a la ciencia del hombre como una fuerza que realiza el trabajo de los factores individuales concretos, determinantes del curso de la historia. En 1859, Darwin avanzó con el transformismo o evolucionismo ofreciendo sus propias observaciones para demostrar las diferencias recurriendo a la paleontología para de esa forma probar el carácter histórico del proceso.
Mientras para el mundo contemporáneo según Vere Gordon Childe, los órdenes y géneros un nivel más alto en la jerarquía evolutiva aparecen por primera vez después de los de más bajo nivel. Por lo tanto los términos de “superior” e “inferior” adquirieron poder para llevar a cabo una clasificación y división. Durante los siglos XVIII, los científicos empezaron a adquirir mejores conocimientos sobre las sociedades humanas fundamentalmente diferentes de las europeas admitiendo que entre los “salvajes” existían una variedad insospechada de estructuras sociales de economías y de tecnologías.[SUP]3[/SUP]
En 1850 Herbet Spencer en su Social Statics, desarrolló una asociación entre la sociedad y el organismo. Su concepto de la evolución supra orgánica se basa en esa analogía.[SUP]3[/SUP] Spencer claramente considera este crecimiento como un proceso temporal. Admite que la evolución es inevitable en el conjunto de las sociedades, puede no serlo en una sociedad particular e incluso ni siquiera puede ser probable.[SUP]4[/SUP] La idea del carácter inferior que tenían los griegos de las mujeres es retomada por Spencer y Darwin, -Darwin siendo más recatado que Spencer con respecto a esto- que utilizan la teoría de la evolución para defender su postura. Spencer dice ver a la mujer como inferior de acuerdo a su estructura corporal y a la cual George Eliot refuta utilizando la teoría de diversificación de Darwin, para el problema de la diferencia sexual.[SUP]5[/SUP]
Las instituciones domésticas de los bárbaros y aun de los salvajes, antepasados del hombre actual, se siguen manifestando y son preservadas. Esto podría ser que la adopción de criterios tecnológicos para definir las etapas de la evolución determina el rango de una sociedad en la escala evolutiva. A esto lo que llama los hombres primitivos, actuando racionalmente estos se unieron para crear la ley y el gobierno. Estos dieron paso a que los grupos humanos crearan las clases sociales, sistema económico etc. Los teóricos del contrato social de la ilustración europea también daban por hecho que los individuos deben llevar a cabo decisiones racionales para crear su propia sociedad.[SUP]6[/SUP]
La importancia intrínseca de Morgan en la historia de la antropología fue realzada por el hecho de Carlos Marx y Federico Engels pues adoptaron su esquema. Marx había anunciado la concepción materialista de la historia 1859; el mismo año en que tuvo lugar la publicación del Origin of Species y la vindicación del hombre Pleistoceno por John Evans, Falconer y Prestwich. Dicha concepción afirma que toda la estructura social está determinada en último termino por el “modo de producción” que a su vez depende del “medio de producción” es decir de las fuerzas técnicas que tienen a su disposición la sociedad para satisfacer las necesidades socialmente reconocidas.[SUP]7[/SUP] Marx llegó a esta conclusión tomando como base las sociedades civilizadas, o sea la clásica, la medieval y la moderna. En general la experiencia de la humanidad da paso a una evolución social que se mueve por funciones y necesidades que se dan en el momento que van cambiando y a las que se han estado expuestas y que pueden llegar a manos de la persona ese conocimiento por otros por medio de un aprendizaje o una necesidad puesta como prioridad. por lo demás Alber --- le voy a citar a Vd. lo siguiente de un libro que lamentablemente esta escrito en ingles - pero se que Vd. lee al menos un poco en ingles y tiene la posibilidad de entender lo que pongo ... es un libro de Roger Lewin que esta ligado a Harvard University y Robert Foley que e de la universidad de Cambridge... y dice en la pagina 17 donde citan a Misia Landau de la universidad de Boston: Scientists are generally aware of the influence of theory on observation, concludes Landau. "Seldom do they recognize, however, that many scientific theories are essentially narratives". This is true not just of paleoanthroplogy, but even of the hardest sciences. One way, for example, is the lok at how DNA, the most basic biological molecule, acts to make a protein, the building block of life. In one sense it is a chemical journey, from genetic code to complex bodily forms. The sequence from DNA to amino acide to protein and the composite individual can be told as a journey, with a starting point (conception) and an end point (adult development). There is therefore nothing "unscientific" about the fact that narrative is common to both fact and fiction; rather, it expresses that in science we are looking for causal links and these occur in temporally related events - in other words, in a narrative. Landau identifies several elements in paleoanthropology that makes it particularly susceptible to being cast in narrative form, both by those who tell the stories and by those who listen to them. These elements arise primarily from the fact that as human evolution, like any evolutionary history, is a sequence of events occurring over time, it falls naturally into narrative form.

Lo que implica es un posible cambio de paradigma.... paradigma con el cual los fanáticos de la ciencia vienen a restregarnos "la realidad" de lo ocurrido como si fuera una verdad incuestionable... y la presentan con GRAFICOS Y REPRESENTACIONES ... producto de la IMAGINACION de unos cuantos y que se creen acríticamente, sin entender que son cambiables en el tiempo, y que seguramente lo volveran a hacer

Pero sucede algo extraordinario. Al bozal que dibujé para el principito se me olvidó añadirle la correa de cuero; no habrá podido atárselo al cordero. Entonces me pregunto:

"¿Qué habrá sucedido en su planeta? Quizás el cordero se ha comido la flor..."

A veces me digo: "¡Seguro que no! El principito cubre la flor con su fanal todas las noches y vigila a su cordero". Entonces me siento dichoso y todas las estrellas ríen dulcemente.

Pero otras veces pienso: "Alguna que otra vez se distrae uno y eso basta. Si una noche ha olvidado poner el fanal o el cordero ha salido sin hacer ruido, durante la noche...". Y entonces los cascabeles se convierten en lágrimas...

Y ahí está el gran misterio. Para ustedes que quieren al principito, lo mismo que para mí, nada en el universo habrá cambiado si en cualquier parte, quien sabe dónde, un cordero desconocido se ha comido o no se ha comido una rosa...

Este es para mí el paisaje más hermoso y el más triste del mundo. Es el mismo paisaje de la página anterior que he dibujado una vez más para que lo vean bien. Fue aquí donde el principito apareció sobre la Tierra, desapareciendo luego.

Examínenlo atentamente para que sepan reconocerlo, si algún día, viajando por África cruzan el desierto. Hyena Ate Early Human 500,000 Years Ago

About 500,000 years ago, a hyena ate a human literally down to the bone, according to a new paper that describes the gory find.

The chewed up human thighbone adds to the growing body of evidence that humans were frequently both predators and prey before their numbers increased and weapons improved. The discovery is reported in the journal PLOS ONE.

Project leader Camille Daujeard and colleagues analyzed the ancient gnawed human bone, which was unearthed in a cave named “Grotte à Hominidés,” located near Casablanca, Morocco.

“This bone represents the first evidence of consumption of human remains by carnivores in the cave,” the authors wrote. They added that the “chewed femur indicates that humans were a (food) resource for carnivores, underlying their close relationships during the Middle Pleistocene in Atlantic Morocco.”

The relationships appear to have been too close, with Daujeard and colleagues sharing that there was “competition for resources as well as for living spaces.”

The researchers suspect that a hyena ate the human, based on both the many tooth marks left on the thighbone and the way in which the individual was eaten. Once the hungry hyena finished with the flesh, it crushed the bone ends and ate the deceased’s marrow.

Faces Of Our Ancestors

The human was probably a member of the species Homo rhodesiensis, since other remains of this early human have been found elsewhere at the site. Such individuals looked a lot like we do today.

The researchers wrote that, at the time, the early humans “hunted in groups and relied on new effective weapons; these two improvements allowed them to slaughter larger gregarious prey and to handle encounters with dangerous competitors. Still, this was a period of stiff competition between large carnivores and hominins…” The authors added that both groups “shared the same landscapes and competed for resources and natural shelter.”

It remains unclear if the hyena killed the human, or if the toothy mammal came upon an already dead individual and consumed the remains. Both scenarios are possible, according to the researchers.

Prehistoric People Ate Each Other, Bones Show

Bones for many other species were found at and around the site, revealing that gazelles, antelopes, bears, leopards, porcupines, wildebeest, baboons, zebras, rhinos and many other animals were in the ecosystem with humans, who likely hunted most, if not all, of them.

“Coprolites (fossilized clumps of poo) are numerous,” according to the researchers, providing further evidence of the animals’ presence.

We will probably never know the true extent of the killing that went on back in the day: both humans hunting multiple species, and animals killing early humans.

As Daujeard wrote in a press release: “Although encounters and confrontations between archaic humans and large predators of this time period in North Africa must have been common, the discovery…is one of the few examples where hominin consumption by carnivores is proven.”

“This bone represents the first evidence of consumption of human remains by carnivores in the cave,” the authors wrote. They added that the “chewed femur indicates that humans were a (food) resource for carnivores, underlying their close relationships during the Middle Pleistocene in Atlantic Morocco.”

The relationships appear to have been too close, with Daujeard and colleagues sharing that there was “competition for resources as well as for living spaces.”

The researchers suspect that a hyena ate the human, based on both the many tooth marks left on the thighbone and the way in which the individual was eaten. Once the hungry hyena finished with the flesh, it crushed the bone ends and ate the deceased’s marrow.

Faces Of Our Ancestors

The human was probably a member of the species Homo rhodesiensis, since other remains of this early human have been found elsewhere at the site. Such individuals looked a lot like we do today.

The researchers wrote that, at the time, the early humans “hunted in groups and relied on new effective weapons; these two improvements allowed them to slaughter larger gregarious prey and to handle encounters with dangerous competitors. Still, this was a period of stiff competition between large carnivores and hominins…” The authors added that both groups “shared the same landscapes and competed for resources and natural shelter.”

It remains unclear if the hyena killed the human, or if the toothy mammal came upon an already dead individual and consumed the remains. Both scenarios are possible, according to the researchers.

Prehistoric People Ate Each Other, Bones Show

Bones for many other species were found at and around the site, revealing that gazelles, antelopes, bears, leopards, porcupines, wildebeest, baboons, zebras, rhinos and many other animals were in the ecosystem with humans, who likely hunted most, if not all, of them.

“Coprolites (fossilized clumps of poo) are numerous,” according to the researchers, providing further evidence of the animals’ presence.

We will probably never know the true extent of the killing that went on back in the day: both humans hunting multiple species, and animals killing early humans.

As Daujeard wrote in a press release: “Although encounters and confrontations between archaic humans and large predators of this time period in North Africa must have been common, the discovery…is one of the few examples where hominin consumption by carnivores is proven.”

Data Scientists Sometimes Fool Themselves

The easiest person in the world to fool is yourself. Data scientists sometimes fool themselves - in matters trivial and important. Thus, I strongly suggest that we acknowledge real or subconscious biases in ourselves, the data, the analysis and group think. It is prudent for data science teams to have both internal and external checks and balances to expose potential biases and better understand objective reality.

Raw data sets - both large and small - are not objective - they are selected, collected, filtered, structured and analyzed by human design. What was measured, in what manner, with what devices and to what purpose? What was not measured and why? Was only low-hanging fruit measured because the important could not be measured? What was the quality of the data?

Humans then interpret meaning from data in different ways. Experts can be shown the same sets of data and reasonably come to different conclusions. Naked and hidden biases in selecting, collecting, structuring and analyzing data present serious risks. How we decide to slice and dice data and what elements to emphasize or ignore influences the types and quality of measurements.

For example, the Vietnam war was arguably the first war in modern history to be data-driven. Robert McNamara was the United States Secretary of Defense during the war who instituted a data-driven, analytical strategy for managing the war. Prior to public service he used data science and business analytics to successfully run the Ford Motor Company. Yet war is a different beast than selling cars where the goal is simply to sell the most cars. War goals are often fuzzy and selecting the right data to measure is more difficult. McNamara and his team did not adequately understand data biases and often measured the wrong things (e.g., body counts) to manage and evaluate the war. The result was disaster.

Another example is the data-driven culture and swift destruction of Enron. Enron's leadership was super-smart and used data-driven, analytical strategies for managing business. It worked for a period of time making Enron among the most valuable firms of that era. Yet success bred arrogance and a dubious ethical culture that often measured the wrong things (e.g., energy market models and accounting). The Enron smart guys thought they were smarter and more data-driven than the competition. Only they were smart enough to build the complex models that others could not understand. Of course, the models were flawed yet over-confident belief in the data and superior analysis created a closed-system logic - without checks and balances to disclose the biases, flaws and errors - leading to disaster.

Here are a few of the ways data scientists sometimes fool themselves:

Confirmation bias: tendency to favor data that confirms beliefs or hypotheses.

Naive Rationalism bias: thinking that the reasons for things are, by default, accessible to you.

Funding - Agency bias: intentional or unconscious skewing of data, assumptions and interpretations to favor the interests of the party that financially supports the data science.

Data selection bias: skewing selection of data sources to most available, convenient and cost-effective, in contrast to being most valid and relevant for specific study. Data scientists have budget, data source and time limits - and thus may introduce unconscious bias in data sets able to select and those excluded.

Cherry picking bias: pointing to individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of related cases or data that may contradict that position.

Cognitive bias: skewing decisions based on pre-existing cognitive and heuristic factors (e.g., intuition) rather than on data and evidence. Biases in judgment or decision-making can also result from motivation, such as when beliefs are distorted by wishful thinking. Some biases have a variety of cognitive ("cold") or motivational ("hot") explanations.

Omitted-variable bias: appears in estimates of parameters in a regression analysis when the assumed specification is incorrect, in that it omits an independent variable that should be in the model.

Sampling bias: systematic error due to a non-random sample of a population, causing some members of the population to be less likely to be included than others, resulting in a biased sample - skewing the sampling of data sets toward subgroups of the population most relevant to the initial scope of data science project, thereby making it unlikely that you will uncover any meaningful correlations that may apply to other segments.

Data Dredging bias: using regression techniques that may find correlations in small or some samples - but that may not be statistically significant in the wider population.

Projection bias: tendency to assume that most folks think just like us, though there may be no justification for it. Assume that a consensus exists on matters when there may be none or the exaggerated confidence one has when predicting the winner of an election or sports match.

Modeling bias: skewing models by starting with a biased set of project assumptions that drive selection of the wrong variables, the wrong data, the wrong algorithms and the wrong metrics of fitness - including overfitting of models to past data without regard for predictive lift and failure to score and iterate models in a timely fashion with fresh observational data.

Reporting bias: skewing availability of data, such that observations of a certain kind may be more likely to be reported and consequently used in research.

Data-snooping bias: misuse of data mining techniques.

Exclusion bias: systematic exclusion of certain things.

Ingroup bias: tendency to favor one's own group - causes us to overestimate the abilities and values of our immediate group at the expense of others we don't really know.

Observation Selection bias: data is filtered not only by study design and measurement, but by the necessary precondition that there has to be someone doing a study. In situations where the existence of the observer or the study is correlated with the data observation selection effects occur, and anthropic reasoning is required.

Agency problem bias: means moral hazard and conflict of interest may arise in any relationship where one party is expected to act in another's best interests. The problem is that the agent who is supposed to make the decisions that would best serve the principal is naturally motivated by self-interest, and the agent's own best interests may differ from the principal's best interests. The two parties have different interests and asymmetric information (the agent having more information), such that the principal cannot directly ensure that the agent is always acting in its (the principal's) best interests, particularly when activities that are useful to the principal are costly to the agent, and where elements of what the agent does are costly for the principal to observe. Agents may hide risks and structure relationships so when he is right, he collects large benefits, when he is wrong, others pay the price.

La evidencia está en los huesos encontrados que muestran signos de heridas y daños que por su extensión o localización son normalmente incapacitantes. A partir de aquí se especula que una forma en la que estos individuos pudieron sobrevivir fue porque recibieron cuidados (alimento y abrigo) por parte de otros miembros de su grupo.

Seguro estoy que usted tendrá otra hipótesis que explique este tipo de hallazgo….
