Key words: sustainability, development, intrinsic value, instrumental value, epistemology, objectivity, economic growth, Kyoto protocol, truth, autonomy, morality, ethics, anthropocentric.
The economic development in the “developed countries” is regarded by IPCC:s last report, as not having sustainable consequences regarding our climate due to our consumption patterns. Within the field of environmental ethics it is regarded that an anthropocentric grounded ethical theory is not defendable and thereby sustainable regarding the environment. This paper tries to consolidate the mentioned innate problems regarding both, by analyzing the epistemology that grounds objectivity, sciences and truth and the ground for ethics concerning our knowledge. It views sustainability as anthropocentrically grounded as morality regards mans behavior – regardless the field in which man is involved.
