Gregory the Great (Gregory I c. 540-603): Then it is well said of this Altar that it is placed before the Veil of the Ark in the Holy of Holies. Truly the Ark of the Covenant became for us Him of Whom we know it is written: “In Whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col. 2:3). The Ark within the Veil is Our Savior in Heaven. Theodosia Gray, trans., The Homilies of Saint Gregory the Great on the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, Book Two, Homily X.21 (Etna: Center for Traditionalist Orthodox Studies, 1990), pp. 285-286.
II, 3). Arca intra velum est Redemptor noster in coelo. Homiliae In Ezechielem, Liber secundus, Homilia X, §21, PL 76:1070.
